Bulldog Women Take Third, Men Finish Fifth at SCIAC Cross Country Championships

The University of Redlands cross country teams capped off the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) season with Saturday's championship meet at Prado Park.  The Bulldog women finished third in the standings with an average time of 24:54.38, while the Redlands men took fifth overall by averaging 27:20.68.

Pacing the women, sophomore Maria Ramirez (Orange, CA) ran a sixth-place time of 23:25.58 to earn All-SCIAC First-Team honors for her top-10 performance.  Senior Kaylee Jorgensen (Claremont, CA) quickly followed in 17th place with a time of 24:25.09, which garnered her a spot on the All-Conference Second Team. 

Junior Ellie Ramsey (Waterbury, VT) put together a top-30 showing by completing the 6k course in 25:15.66.

Sophomore Carly Veasy (Camas, WA) served as the team's fourth runner with her time of 25:37.60, which placed her 36th overall.  Sophomore Sarah Shipway (Lafayette, CA), freshman Brigit Laughlin (Huntington Beach, CA), and senior Emily Guthormsen (Morgan Hill, CA) all finished one right after the other, with Shipway pacing the trio in 40th place at 25:47.93.

The Bulldog men were led by the dynamic duo of juniors Joseph Esparza (Arcata, CA) and Benjamin Casey (Highland Park, IL), who finished in 15th and 16th place, respectively.  Esparza completed the 8k course in 26:38.67, while Casey ran a time of 26:41.29.  They each earned a spot on the All-SCIAC Second Team as a result of their top-20 showings.

Freshman Henry Tucker Cargile (Denver, CO) posted a solid effort with his 35th-place time of 27:26.16, while senior Sean Unger (Carlsbad, CA) and freshman Trevor Brouelette (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) completed the Maroon and Gray's scoring five with respective marks of 27:52.17 and 28:04.09. 

Redlands now looks forward to competing in the NCAA Regional Championships in Claremont on Saturday, November 11, at 9 a.m.
