The University of Redlands cross country teams competed at the nearby Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday morning, earning solid results against a variety of runners. The Bulldog women finished third out of 13 teams, with sophomore Maria Ramirez (Orange, CA) pacing the team with her fourth-place showing. The Redlands men came in sixth among the 12 teams at the meet.
While taking on more than 150 competitors, Ramirez ran the 6k course in 22:13.87 to cross the finish line in fourth place overall. Senior Kaylee Jorgensen (Claremont, CA) followed in 27th place with a time of 23:50.95, while sophomore Carly Veasy (Camas, WA) finished the race in 24:00.67 for 32nd. Senior Emily Guthormsen (Morgan Hill, CA) completed the course in 24:06.90, as junior Ellie Ramsey (Waterbury, VT) ran a 24:18.78 for 40th place.
Among a field of 137 runners, junior Benjamin Casey (Highland Park, IL) led the Maroon and Gray on the 8k course with a career-best time of 26:27.13 to finish 18th. Junior Joseph Esparza (Arcata, CA) quickly followed in 24th place by crossing the finish line 26:37.80. Freshman Henry Tucker Cargile (Denver, CO) provided a 39th-place showing with his time of 27:00.91, while freshman Trevor Brouelette (Rancho Santa Margarita) and senior Sean Unger (Carlsbad, CA) completed the Bulldogs' top five with respective times of 27:23.14 and 27:24.13. In addition, Brouelette registered his fastest 8k time of his young career by more than 35 seconds.
Redlands looks forward to competing at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships, which take place on Saturday, October 28, at Prado Park. First race begins at 9 a.m.
