Redlands Cross Country Accelerates through SCIAC Multi-Dual Meet with Excellent Results

The University of Redlands cross country teams made the annual trip to La Mirada Park for the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Multi-Dual Meet.  While scoring against all member schools, the Bulldogs produced high-quality results, with the women taking third with a 6-2 mark and the men finishing fourth at 5-3.

In the head-to-head results, Redlands' women posted winning results against Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (26-31), Caltech (24-35), Whittier College (24-35), Chapman University (15-50), Cal Lutheran University (19-44), and the University of La Verne (19-44).

Sophomore Maria Ramirez (Orange, CA) paced the Maroon and Gray by crossing the line of the 6K course in 21:57.24 for sixth place.  This mark also placed her fourth all-time in Redlands' history books.

Senior Kaylee Jorgensen (Claremont, CA) headlined a quality quartet that placed among the top 35 at the race, beginning with her 24th-place time of 23:28.17.  Sophomore Carly Veasy (Camas, WA) closely followed in 28th at 23:49.22, as freshman Desiree Cadena (San Jose, CA) shined in her inaugural SCIAC Multi-Dual Meet with a 29th-place showing of 23:50.42. Senior Emily Guthormsen (Morgan Hill, CA) completed the scoring five for the Bulldogs by taking 34th with a time of 24:02.93.

As a team, the Bulldog men's fourth-place effort was the best for the program since 2010. Redlands topped Whittier (29-30), Caltech (24-33), Cal Lutheran (22-37), La Verne (19-44), and Chapman (no score).

Senior Sean Unger (Carlsbad, CA) left it all on the 8K course in his final campaign by recording his best finish at this particular meet.  With a time of 27:26.88, he came in 27th place.

Junior Joseph Esparza (Arcata, CA) quickly followed Unger in 27:43.03 for 39th place, while junior Benjamin Casey (Highland Park, IL) crossed the finish line in 27:44.00 for a top-40 time at the meet.  Freshmen Trevor Brouelette (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) and Henry Tucker Cargile (Denver, CO) completed the Maroon and Gray's top five with their respective marks of 28:04.17 and 28:10.57.
