Redlands Women's Water Polo Lands Three on ACWPC All-America Team

The Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) included three seniors from the University of Redlands on the 2019 Women's Division III All-America Team, which was announced earlier today. Attacker Katelyn Jenkins (Bellevue, WA) represents the Bulldogs on the First Team for the first time in her career, while center Kolby Kahahawai (Kailua, HI) and goalkeeper Kelly Grosswendt (Newbury Park, CA) each earned Honorable Mention recognition.

In her final campaign, Jenkins consistently provided offense for the Maroon and Gray with a team-high 50 goals and 15 assists for 65 points on the year. She scored at least one tally in 22 out of 30 games, including a season-high five goals in a road win over Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) foe, Occidental College. She ended her strong season with 12 goals over the span of the final four games, three of which were victories for the Bulldogs. Jenkins also made an impact on the defensive end with 18 steals, as highlighted by five games with at least two steals each.

Kahahawai proved to be effective in the middle with 45 goals and 25 steals in 30 games. She strung together eight consecutive contests with at least one goal, highlighted by a seven-score effort in a road victory over Macalester College (MN). At the Bulldog Invitational early in the season, Kahahawai disrupted the opposing teams' offense with three steals in back-to-back games. She also drew 24 exclusions on the year.

This season, Grosswendt held down the cage for the Bulldogs with 359 saves in more than 1,000 minutes with a .571 save percentage. Grosswendt produced 13 games with double-digit saves, including a 19-save win against Macalester College (MN). Her defensive presence was aided by 34 steals on the season. In an overtime battle against Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, Grosswendt led the team with eight steals to go along with eight saves between the posts.
