Redlands Women's Water Polo Wins Sweep of SCIAC's Weekly Award

The University of Redlands women's water polo team hauled in both Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) athletes of the week for February 17-24. Senior center Kolby Kahahawai (Kailua, HI) was named the Offensive Athlete of the Week, while senior goalkeeper Kelly Grosswendt (Newbury Park, CA) earned the Defensive Athlete of the Week award.

During the Bulldogs' 4-1 weekend at the Macalester Invite in Saint Paul, Minnesota, the duo provided stellar contributions on either end of the pool. Kahahawai and Grosswendt aided the team to a pair of sizeable wins over Carthage College (WI), a 13-10 decision over Macalester, and a 15-9 victory over Monmouth College (IL). The Maroon and Gray's only loss of the tournament came in an overtime thriller to VMI.

Overall, Kahahawai fired off 16 goals over the five games to lead the charge. She scored at least twice in each contest and produced seven goals in the win over Macalester.

Grosswendt returned to injured just in time to provide huge stops between the posts for the Bulldogs. She recorded a total of 77 saves while notching a minimum of 13 in each game. She also made 19 in the first win over Carthage.
