Redlands Women's Water Polo Takes on Top Competition at CBU Invitational

The University of Redlands women's water polo team traveled to Riverside for the Cal Baptist University (CBU) Lancer Invitational on Friday and Saturday. While facing tough opponents, the Maroon and Gray battled through the competition but lost all four games.

On Friday, Redlands lost to the host school by a score of 1-13, before falling to Azusa Pacific University in a 1-12 decision.

Saturday's games showed slight improvement, with the Bulldogs faltering to Fresno Pacific University by a score of 1-10 before registering a 4-10 loss to Concordia University – Irvine.

On Friday, freshman attack player Olivia Allen (Santa Monica, CA) and sophomore center Kolby Kahahawai (Kailua, HI) netted Redlands' only goals of the days.

Sophomore goalkeeper Allison Totzke (San Bernardino, CA) recorded seven saves in the first game, while sophomore goalkeeper Kelly Grosswendt (Newbury Park, CA) notched 11 in the second contest.

On Saturday, the Bulldogs faced a challenging FPU team that held them to only one goal, which was scored by Allen.  Grosswendt remained busy between the pipes by making six stops in the first two periods.

Redlands had its best showing against the Concordia Eagles in the final game of the tournament.  After the Eagles struck first, junior attack player Michelle Na (Mercer Island, WA) slotted the equalizer for the Bulldogs. CU-I added four more through the next two periods of action, but Redlands kept right there with them, as Kahahawai and Na each scored.

The Bulldogs tried to battle back when Allen added a goal in the third period. Unfortunately, Redlands' scoring ended there, as CUI expanded its lead by two more in the fourth for a 10-4 advantage.

Totzke and sophomore goalkeeper Katelyn Jenkins (Bellevue, WA) split time between the pipes while making 10 saves collectively.

The Bulldogs (4-11) look to quickly turn around the result when they host the CU-I Eagles on Tuesday, March 14, in a tri-match with the Virginia Military Institute (VMI). Redlands faces Concordia at 12 noon and then squares off against VMI at 6 p.m.
