The University of Redlands women's volleyball team traveled to the University of La Verne on Saturday to face the Leopards in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) matchup. Despite pushing the second set to 26-28, the Bulldogs fell in straight sets, 17-25, 26-28, and 11-25.

The Maroon and Gray kept things close in the first set, evening the score at 6-6 and 7-7 off of crafty kills from junior middle blocker Hannah Lanyon (San Diego, CA) and first-year middle blocker Saudya Reagor (Banning, CA). But the home team pulled away and closed out the first set, 25-17.

With the score knotted at 6-6 in the second stanza, the Bulldogs went on a 4-0 run that was bookended by two massive blocks. First, Lanyon and Reagor shut down the ULV attack and then Lanyon teamed up with senior middle blocker Sammi Tafoya (Granite Bay, CA) for the second stuff that resulted in Redlands' 11-6 lead.

Sophomore outside hitters Paige Davidson (Spanaway, WA) and Taylor Degnan (Atascadero, CA) provided excellent firepower off of senior setter Emily Marty's (San Diego, CA) assist to put Redlands up, 23-22. The Bulldogs gained quality attacks from Reagor and senior right-side Maloree Kupp (Sunnyside, WA), but La Verne managed to secure the two-set lead.

Errors plagued the Bulldogs in the third, as they suffered an 11-25 defeat.

Lanyon led the team with seven kills, while Davidson followed close behind with six. Both Reagor and Tafoya got their hands up for two block assists.

The Bulldogs (2-9, 0-2 SCIAC) return home on Tuesday, September 24, for a conference showdown against Cal Lutheran University. Match time is slated for 7 p.m. in Currier Gym.
