Steve Marshburn Returns to Redlands as Associate Head Women's Tennis Coach

Steve Marshburn announced as the Associate Head Women's Tennis Coach

The University of Redlands, Bulldog Athletics, and the tennis program excitedly announce the hiring of Steve Marshburn as the new Associate Head Women's Tennis Coach, effective September 16.

"As a Redlands native, an alum of this great University, and a former Bulldog tennis player, I am humbled and extremely excited to join the Redlands family again! I love tennis with an absolute passion and the opportunity to wake up every day and coach for the University of Redlands in this capacity is a dream come true," commented Marshburn.

A familiar face to Verdieck Courts, Marshburn not only competed for the Bulldogs but also previously coached at Redlands.  Most recently, he served as an assistant women's tennis coach for three seasons from 2014-2106.  He provided excellent on-court leadership while executing team practice plans and fitness strategies.

"We are thrilled to welcome Steve back to our coaching staff!  Steve's leadership, professionalism, knowledge, and competitiveness will make him a tremendous asset to our program.  Our student-athletes will benefit from Steve's coaching and his guidance on and off the tennis courts," Head Coach Geoff Roche said.

In addition to his prior work with the University of Redlands, Marshburn brings more than two decades of private and high-school coaching, including stints as the Director of Tennis at Pocatello Swim and Tennis Club and with the Redlands High School girls' team.

As a Bulldog student-athlete, Marshburn competed for a men's tennis team that was ranked as high as No. 3 in the nation.  Among his impressive accolades, he became a two-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American and a two-time Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Athlete of the Year.

"Being a student and playing tennis at the University of Redlands was one of the greatest times in my life and I want to enable this for our student-athletes going forward!" Marshburn added.

Outside of tennis, Marshburn has worked for Esri, Inc. as a senior consultant and project manager for the Professional Services Division since 2012.  He also grew professionally with Premier Technology, Inc. and UBS Financial Services.

Upon completing his Bachelor of Arts from Redlands, Marshburn joined the United States Army and served in the elite 75th Ranger Regiment and the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.  This provided him with significant management, planning, logistical coordination, and leadership experiences through multiple deployments in Afghanistan.

He also holds a Master of Business Administration from Idaho State University.
