No. 27 U of R Women's Tennis Rolls to 9-0 Win over Whittier

The No. 27 University of Redlands women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 thrashing of Whittier College during Saturday morning's Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) showdown.  After sweeping the doubles, the Bulldogs made quick work of the Poets in singles for a fine outing on the road.

The No. 1 duo of senior Elizabeth Johnson (Portland, OR) and first-year Halle Martinucci (Burlingame, CA) posted an impressive 8-0 triumph to set the tone early.  Senior Kate Dolan (St. Louis, MO) and sophomore Lexi Lehman (Scottsdale, AZ) followed suit with the same score at No. 3.  Junior Jackie Lacy (Palm Desert, CA) and sophomore Karen Kobayashi (Sappora, Japan) completed the sweep with their 8-1 performance at No. 2.

In singles, Redlands continued to roll, as Lehman came off the third court with a 6-0, 6-2 victory to make it 4-0 in the team scoring  Senior Madison Ross (San Diego, CA) captured the clincher by defeating her No. 6 opponent, 6-0, 6-0.

Furthermore, the Bulldogs did not drop a set, with first-year Mia Fitzgerald (Kauai, HI), Kobayashi, Martinucci, and Dolan each winning their respective singles matches for the 9-0 result.

Redlands (7-10, 3-2 SCIAC) welcomes the fifth-ranked Sagehens of Pomona-Pitzer Colleges to Verdieck Courts on Friday, April 19, for Senior Day.  The conference tilt is set for 3 p.m.
