The No. 31 University of Redlands women's tennis team battled but came up short in a 3-6 loss to No. 40 Colby College (ME) on Wednesday afternoon on Verdieck Courts.

The Bulldogs suffered a tough result in the doubles by giving up a heartbreaking sweep to face an early deficit. Although the margins were slim with 7-8 scores on the first two courts and a 6-8 tally on the third, Redlands entered the singles with plenty of work to do.

At the top of singles action, the Mules picked up the first win to take a 4-0 advantage. At No. 5, first-year Halle Martinucci (Burlingame, CA) powered out a 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 victory to make it 1-4.

Despite Colby sealing the match win with the fifth point coming on the No. 6 court, Redlands continued to fight. At No. 4, sophomore Lexi Lehman (Scottsdale, AZ) rallied from behind in a 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 victory, while junior Jackie Lacy (Palm Desert, CA) also secured a three-set win by a score of 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 at No. 2.

Redlands (4-7, 1-0 SCIAC) concludes its 10-match home-stand on Friday, March 29, against No. 6 Middlebury College (VT) on Verdieck Courts at 2 p.m.
