No. 19 Redlands Women's Tennis Falls to No. 6 Pomona-Pitzer in SCIAC Opener

The No. 19 University of Redlands women's tennis team opened Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action on Friday with a home match against the sixth-ranked Pomona-Pitzer Colleges Sagehens.  The Bulldogs battled against the top foe but came up short in a 0-9 decision.

The Maroon and Gray's closest doubles match came at the No. 1 slot, as freshman Sarah Ikioka (Wailuku, HI) and sophomore Elizabeth Johnson (Portland, OR) challenged their foes in an 8-5 loss.

In singles, Ikioka rallied for a strong second set at the No. 1 position but ultimately fell by scores of 6-0, 7-5.  Freshman Jackie Lacy (Palm Desert, CA) also performed admirably at the No. 6 spot in a 6-3, 7-5 defeat.

Redlands (0-3, 0-1 SCIAC) strives to jump into the win column when it hosts No. 28 Brandeis University (MA) on Saturday, February 25, at 10 a.m. on Verdieck Courts.
