The No. 19 University of Redlands women's tennis team took to the road for an important Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match against the fourth-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Friday afternoon. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs' win streak came to an end at five, as they came up short in a 1-8 decision against the Athenas.
Although Redlands dropped all three doubles matches, two of them were decided by competitive scores of 8-5.
Senior Natalie Etchegaray (Placentia, CA) notched the only point for the Maroon and Gray with a straight-set win at the No. 1 slot in singles. Ranked fourth in the region, she upset the west's No. 2 player by scores of 7-6 (9), 6-2.
In addition, the Bulldogs gained a solid effort from junior Stephanie Ramos (Sacramento, CA) at No. 6, as she extended the match to a third-set super-breaker by rallying back in the second.
Redlands (13-6, 5-1 SCIAC) travels to Caltech on Saturday, April 16, for a 10 a.m. showdown against the Beavers.
