No. 21 Bulldog Women's Tennis Reigns over Regals of Cal Lutheran

The No. 21 University of Redlands women's tennis team welcomed the Regals of Cal Lutheran University to Verdieck Courts on Friday afternoon for a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) showdown.  After sweeping the doubles in fine fashion, the Bulldogs took care of business in singles to secure a 7-2 victory.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 3-0 lead with an impressive performance in the doubles.  The No. 1 tandem of seniors Lauren Villanueva (El Segundo, CA) and Natalie Etchegaray (Placentia, CA) got things started with an 8-3 victory, before junior Emily Murnin (Salt Lake City, UT) and senior Gabriela Vasquez (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) followed suit with the same result at No. 3.  Freshmen Kate Dolan (St. Louis, MO) and Elizabeth Johnson (Portland, OR) completed the Bulldogs' sweep by defeating their No. 2 counterparts, 8-4.

In singles, Dolan remained on cruise control with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 6, before Murnin secured the clinching victory at No. 2 with a solid 6-3, 6-1 win.

Etchegary and Vasquez also recorded wins for the Bulldogs by defeating their respective opponents at Nos. 1 and 5.

Redlands (11-5, 3-0 SCIAC) heads to the Claremont Tennis Club on Saturday, April 2, for a 2 p.m. showdown against the Leopards of the University of La Verne.
