No. 18 U of R Women’s Tennis Edges No. 28 Brandeis University

The No. 18 University of Redlands women's tennis team returned to the friendly confines of Verdieck Courts on Friday afternoon for a non-conference bout against No. 28 Brandeis University (MA).  The Bulldogs battled to a 2-1 lead after the doubles and then rallied from behind by winning three singles matches for the 5-4 decision over the Judges.

Redlands jumped out to a 2-0 start, as junior Emily Murnin (Salt Lake City, UT) and freshman Elizabeth Johnson (Portland, OR), and freshman Kate Dolan (St. Louis, MO) and sophomore Claire Bohoskey (Yakima, WA) came out victorious at their respective doubles matches, each by a score of 8-4.

Although Brandeis rallied for a win at the top slot, the Bulldogs held a slight edge to begin the singles matches.

However, the Judges carried their momentum into wins at Nos. 3 and 6 to grab a 3-2 lead.

But Johnson answered the call for Redlands by cruising to a 6-4, 6-3 win at the No. 4 slot, which evened the team tally at three apiece.

Murnin also stepped up for the Bulldogs, as she downed her No. 2 opponent, 6-2, 6-4, to put Redlands in front at 4-3.

Senior Natalie Etchegaray (Placentia, CA) completed the comeback for the Maroon and Gray by registering a 7-6(2), 6-2 win at the top spot.

Redlands (4-1) continues its challenging slate of non-conference foes with a 2 p.m. match on Friday, March 4, against Christopher Newport University (VA) on Verdieck Courts.
