Sophomore Eva Vlassopoulos and First-Year Natalie Hubacz Earn SCIAC Weekly Awards for U of R Women's Soccer

After two big wins last week, the University of Redlands women's soccer team earned both Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) weekly awards, as announced earlier today. Sophomore forward Eva Vlassopoulos (Portland, OR) was named the Offensive Athlete of the Week, while first-year goalkeeper Natalie Hubacz (Grass Valley, CA) seized the Defensive Athlete of the Week award.

Vlassopoulos was a major component in Redlands' 2-0 showing in SCIAC play last week. In the 2-0 win over Chapman University, she scored an insurance goal in the 71st minute to put the Panthers away. Against Occidental College, Vlassopoulos not only scored the game-tying goal in the 89th minute to force extra time, but she also converted the game-winner in the final minute of double-overtime for an impressive display of skill and determination.

Hubacz was just as impressive in the two wins by supplying huge plays in each contest. She entered the game in the second half against the Panthers to make six saves to preserve the 2-0 shutout. She logged more than 60 minutes against the Tigers and registered a career-high nine saves to help Redlands close out an exciting 2-1 victory.

With the pair of wins, the Maroon and Gray are currently in a three-way tie for first place in the conference.

The Bulldogs (8-4-1, 7-2-1 SCIAC) head to Pasadena on Wednesday, October 17, for a 4 p.m. SCIAC game against the Caltech Beavers.
