U of R Women's Lacrosse Lands Six on All-SCIAC Teams

Six players earned All-SCIAC honors for women's lacrosse.

The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) announced the honorees of the 2018 Women's Lacrosse All-Conference Awards on Friday and included six student-athletes from the University of Redlands.  Senior midfielder Lacey Bjorndal (Sherwood, OR) and junior midfielder Hanna Morford (West Linn, OR) represented the Bulldogs on the First Team, while junior attacker Kelsey Ruhl (Seattle, WA), senior goalkeeper Quinn Egan (Greenwood Village, CO), and sophomore defender Chelsea Sahami (Millbrae, CA) landed on the Second Team.  In addition, senior defender Katie Koehler (Jackson, WY) repeated as the Maroon and Gray's SCIAC All-Sportsmanship Team recipient.

Bjorndal caps off a strong, four-year career with her inaugural First-Team nod and second-consecutive All-SCIAC award.  During her final campaign, she reset the school record for single-season draw controls with 124 while eclipsing the 11-draw-control mark in four games this season. Overall, she contributed 41 goals, eight assists, 40 ground balls, and 26 caused turnovers.  In 10 conference games, she provided 24 goals and four assists, to go along with 60 draw controls and 19 ground balls.  Furthermore, she scored the game-winning goal in the Bulldogs' 10-9 overtime win against Chapman University earlier in the season.

Despite battling injuries throughout the season, Morford repeats as a First-Team member with this year's honor.  While competing in nine conference games, she tallied 29 goals on 61 attempts, with 85.2% of her shots going on goal.  She also dished out nine assists and hauled in 37 draw controls and 15 ground balls.  She continues to build upon her own school record for consecutive games with at least one goal at 47, dating back to February 20, 2016.

While earning her inaugural All-SCIAC award, Ruhl reels in a Second-Team selection.  During her junior campaign, she became a vital and creative playmaker by dishing out 27 assists in 17 games.  In 10 SCIAC contests, she delivered 13 assists and scored six goals while hauling in 10 ground balls and four draw controls.

Following last season's First-Team nod, Egan hauls in back-to-back honors with this year's spot on the Second Team.  During her final campaign, she served as the starting goalkeeper in 16 of 17 games played.  In early 950 total minutes, she racked up 146 saves and seven wins.  In addition, Egan grabbed 54 ground balls and caused 16 opponent turnovers.  Against 10 conference foes, she provided more than 550 minutes of action between the posts with 90 saves and three wins.  Against Occidental College, she made 15 stops and also provided a pair of 14-save performances against Pomona-Pitzer College and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.

Sahami also earns her first-ever All-Conference distinction as a member of the Second Team.  She competed in only 12 games during the season but certainly made her presence known in nine conference showdowns.  She consistently applied quality pressure against the opponents, earning 15 ground balls and forcing 12 turnovers.  She also corralled 10 draw controls in those games.

Koehler earns back-to-back selection to the SCIAC All-Sportsmanship Team for her team-first mentality and consistent dedication to the Bulldog women's lacrosse team.

The Bulldogs finished the season in fifth place in the conference standings with a 3-7 mark en route to a 7-10 overall record.
