U of R Women's Golf Owns Sixth Place through Two Rounds at the NCAA Championships

The University of Redlands women's golf team enjoyed more favorable conditions at the 2021 NCAA Division III Championships on Wednesday in East Lansing, Michigan, that included a light breeze and temperatures in the mid-50s.  While bettering yesterday's round by six strokes, the Bulldogs moved into sole possession of sixth place among the 25-team leaderboard with a two-day total of 644 (325-319).

As a team, Redlands ranks fourth among the tournament field with an average of 5.45 on the par fives.  The U of R sits among the top 10 in par threes (3.55), par fours (4.58), overall pars (80), and birdies (11).

Among Wednesday's highlights, junior Kendall Nicholson (Bellevue, WA) climbed eight spots into a tie-for-12th on the individual leaderboard.  She bettered yesterday's result by three strokes with a 77.  She made a seven-foot putt on hole #8 for birdie.  In addition, she tapped in 12 pars on the day for a total of 21.

First-year Iris Liu (Diamond Bar, CA) continues to impress in her first trip to the national tournament by leading the Bulldogs with back-to-back 78s to sit in a tie for 10th.  She owns 20 pars and three birdies at the tournament thus far and ranks fourth on the par fours with an average of 4.25.  Earlier today, she sank a 20-foot putt to card a two on the par-three hole #7. 

Sophomore Hannah Jugar (Chula Vista, CA) and first-year Gabrielle Kiger (Hermosa Beach, CA) also improved their rounds from the day before.  Jugar signed her scorecard with an 81 for a three-stroke improvement, while Kiger shaved off four shots for an 83.  Jugar birdied holes #4, #7, and #15 in a fine showing and Kiger added to her total with today's birdie on hole #5.

First-year Andrea York (Oakdale, CA) entered the clubhouse with an 87 that included seven pars on the day.

The Bulldogs tee off on Thursday, May 13, at 9:30 a.m. PDT.  They remain paired with Centre College (KY) and Williams College (MA) for tomorrow's round.  Fans may follow the action with live scoring at www.GolfStat.com.
