No. 1 Bulldog Women's Golf Team Captures First Place at SCIAC Championships, Individuals Take First-Fifth Place

Behind sophomore Hannah Jugar's (Chula Vista, CA) top medalist honors the No. 1 University of Redlands took home first place at the 2021 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships at Los Serranos Golf Course in Chino Hills. The team went ahead and stayed ahead to finish the three-day tournament with a 924 (311-313-300), 51 strokes in front of second place.

The team impressively took places first through fifth for an outstanding total-team effort and combined for 180 total pars.

While shooting her best round of the tournament at 74, Jugar finished first in the final standings with a 227 (75-78-74). She registered the only eagle of the competition, which came on the first hole of Tuesday's round.  Overall, she led the field in par-five scoring with a minus-two average of 4.83 while finishing second with 33 pars.

Junior Kendall Nicholson (Bellevue, WA) stayed consistent on the final 18 holes to remain in second place overall with a closing tally of 232 (81-75-76). She led all competitors with 35 pars and shot one-under on par fives for a 4.92 average.

First-years Gabi Kiger (Redondo Beach, CA) and Iris Liu (Diamond Bar, CA) both improved on the final day to move up and tie each other for third place. G. Kiger owned the lowest round on day three with a 73 en route to a 237 total (79-85-73), she also racked up 33 pars. Liu signed her scorecard with a 237 (78-82-77), as well. She recorded five birdies and 28 pars.

Junior Malia Kiger (Redondo Beach, CA) rounded out the Bulldog's top-five finishers with her 239 (79-80-80) total. She led all Bulldogs with six birdies.

Seniors Annie Hay (University Place, WA) and Mariah Moon (La Quinta, CA) rounded out the Maroon and Gray golfers in eighth and tied-for-ninth place, respectively. They both raised one spot in the standings from the previous day. Hay entered the clubhouse with a 243 (83-80-80) while Moon totaled 244 (88-76-80). Moon also impressed with 28 pars.

With the conference championship under their belt, the Bulldogs earn an automatic bid to the 2021 National Championships on Tuesday, May 11 through Friday, May 14, at Forest Akers Golf Course in Lansing, Michigan.
