No. 1 Redlands Women's Golf Dominates Second SCIAC Tournament

The top-ranked University of Redlands women's golf team hosted the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) No. 2 tournament at the Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon on Saturday and Sunday, soaring past the competition with a final total of 619 (309-310). After a solid two-round performance, Redlands pulled away from the pack with a commanding win by 33 strokes. The team led in multiple categories including 98 pars, 22 birdies, and shot even on par-five holes.

Sophomore Hannah Jugar (Chula Vista, CA) shot a 76 to sit in second place after day one. She regrouped to shave off five strokes on day two for a 71 and finished with a three-over-par, 147 to win the event by just one stroke. Throughout the weekend, Jugar led the field in par-three scoring with an average mark of 2.88, shooting minus-one on those holes. She also accumulated a tournament-best nine birdies.

In addition to Jugar's first-place finish, Redlands gained an outstanding effort from junior Malia Kiger (Hermosa Beach, CA) who followed closely in third place by posting a consistent two-round total of 144 (77-77). M. Kiger finished the event with a par-five score of 4.75, which tied her for second among the field. She also recorded 21 pars.

Three more Maroon and Grays scorers landed among the top-10 finishers of the tournament. First-year Gabi Kiger (Hermosa Beach, CA) tied for fifth overall at 160 (78-82). G. Kiger matched her sister with a par-five score of 4.75. They both also recorded four birdies. Senior Annie Hay (University Place, WA) entered the clubhouse with a 164 (84-80) to tie for 8th overall, and junior Kendall Nicholson (Bellevue, WA) tied-for-10th place with a score of 165 (78-87). Hay landed tied-for-second amongst the field with 21 pars.

First-year Andrea York (Oakdale, CA) rounded out the Bulldogs' contributors with her 36-hole tally of 170 (80-90).

Senior Mariah Moon (La Quinta, CA) and first-year Iris Liu (Diamond Bar, CA) competed as individuals. After shooting an 83 on day one, Moon slashed nine strokes off for a day two tally of 74 and 154 total for fourth place overall. She also impressed with an eagle and led the field with a par-five average of 4.63. Liu snagged seventh place, signing her scorecard with a 161 (78-83).

Redlands returns to action on Sunday, April 25 when it travels to Los Serranos Golf Course in Chino Hills to compete in the three-day SCIAC Championship Tournament.
