The No. 12 University of Redlands women's golf team tallied a score of 314 in the final round of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championship Tournament for a second-place finish in the final conference standings. The Bulldogs ended with an aggregate score of 2,164 stokes over the seven rounds of action this season.
With strong performances each day of the tournament, sophomore Annie Hay (University Place, WA) was named the individual runners-up with 228 total shots.
On the team leaderboards, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges earned a first-place finish with a seven-round score of 2,129. Behind Redlands, Pomona-Pitzer Colleges rounded out the top three with a team score of 2,206 in the seven-round season.
On Saturday, Hay clinched a second-place finish on the individual leaderboard with an 82 in round three. With a total score of 228, she finished one stroke behind the leader.
First-year Kendall Nicholson (Bellevue, WA) remained in fourth place with an overall tally of 231 strokes after shooting her best round of 76 in the final round. Senior Keilee Bessho (La Cañada, CA) trailed only one stroke behind Nicholson in sixth place with a 75-stroke performance on the final day for an overall score of 232.
Finishing fourth for the Bulldogs, sophomore Mariah Moon (La Quinta, CA) shot an 83 for a three-round score of 245 in a two-way tie for 18th. First-year Dana Condon (Palm Desert, CA) enjoyed her best round of the tournament with an 81 on day three to finish with a final tally of 251. Sophomore Makayla Sugidono (Scottsdale, AZ) rounded out the Bulldogs' competitors in 34th place with 259 total strokes off a final round of 86.
Individually, Nicholson and Hay took advantage of their opportunities with nine and eight birdies, respectively, which was second and third among the talented field. In addition, Hay ranked fourth with 29 pars and paced the field on par fours with a 4.27 average.
Redlands awaits the announcement for a possible at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Championships, which begin on Tuesday, May 14, in Houston, Texas.
