The No. 12 University of Redlands women's golf team put together a round of 314 on day two of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championship Tournament at Brookside Golf Course in Pasadena. With sophomore Annie Hay (University Place, WA) leading the charge for the second day in a row, the Bulldogs remain in first place at the tournament through Friday's action.
In the aggregate team standings that include all seven conference rounds from the season, the Bulldogs solidified their second-place position with a total of 1,850 strokes for a 40-stroke lead on third-place Pomona-Pitzer Colleges. However, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges extended its lead on Redlands with a solid 303 on Friday for a six-round total of 1,835 with 18 holes left on the conference season.
During Friday's competition, Hay remained consistent with her second round of 73 in two days to remain atop the individual leaderboard. She owns an eight-stroke lead on CMS' Amy Xue in second place. Through 36 holes, Hay leads the talented field in par-four scoring with a plus-two average of 4.10. She also ranks second on the par fives with a minus-two 4.50. Overall, she has knocked in seven birdies and 21 pars through 36 holes.
First-year Kendall Nicholson (Bellevue, WA) scored a 78 for a two-round tally of 155 to tie for fourth place thus far. She sank 19 pars and five birdies.
Senior Keilee Bessho (La Canada, CA) battled through a tough day that resulted in an 82, which dropped her into a tie-for-seventh-place score of 157. She impressed on the longer holes by averaging 4.75 for minus two. Overall, she has 17 pars and three birdies at the tournament.
Sophomore Mariah Moon (La Quinta, CA) and first-year Dana Condon (Palm Desert, CA) each produced the same score as yesterday with an 81 and 85, respectively. Moon moved up two slots on the leaderboard to tie for 15th place. Condon impressed on the par threes with a plus-two average of 3.25 to rank second in the tournament.
Sophomore Makayla Sugidono (Scottsdale, AZ) improved from Thursday's round by shaving off seven strokes for an 83 to climb five spots on the leaderboard to 32nd.
Redlands takes on the Brookside Golf Course again on Saturday, April 20, in the final round of the SCIAC Championship Tournament. First Bulldog tee time is set for 8:52 a.m.
