The No. 11 University of Redlands women's golf team upped its game in the second round of the opening Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament to rally for a second-place finish at Los Serranos Golf Course in Chino Hills over the weekend. After ending the first round in third place with a 321, the Bulldogs improved their second round by eight strokes to finish the tournament with an overall score of 634.
First-year Kendall Nicholson (Bellevue, WA) signed her scorecard with an impressive tally of 151 to win medalist honors among the field of 48 competitors. She led the tournament in par-three scoring with a minus-one 2.88. She also ranked among the best with a score of 4.35 on the par fours and a 5.13 on par fives. Overall, she paced the event with 25 pars while also tapping in three birdies. Nicholson shot a 77 for round one and then registered a tournament-low 74 in the final 18 holes.
While sinking 19 pars and three birdies, sophomore Mariah Moon (La Quinta, CA) performed well with a score of 79 during each round to finish in a seventh-place tie. Sophomore Annie Hay (University Place, WA) also displayed consistency with an 81 in each of her rounds to tie for 15th place. She tallied 17 pars over the 36 holes.
En route to a tie for 21st place, senior Keilee Bessho (La Canada, CA) rallied to improve seven strokes for a round-two score of 79. Sophomores Makayla Sugidono (Scottsdale, AZ) and Emily Duncan (Winchester, CA) rounded out the Bulldogs' scorers in 33rd and 35th with overall scores of 174 and 181, respectively.
Redlands enjoys a short break from competition before heading to Thousand Oaks on Monday, March 11, and Tuesday, March 12, for the Cal Lutheran Regals Invitational.
