REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Basketball team pulled away from Occidental College in the second half Monday night en route to a 79-64 win inside Currier Gym.

With the win the Bulldogs improve to 15-4, 11-2 SCIAC, have won two in a row and four of their last five and remain atop the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Standings.  Angelina Roque (San Diego, CA) led all scorers with 24 points on 10-of-18 shooting along with four rebounds and three assists.  Hannah Jerrier (Canton, MA) poured in 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting with eight rebounds and two assists and Chyanne Pagkalinawan (Valencia, CA) added 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting.

The Bulldogs efficient offensively in the first quarter, putting up 27 points on 85.7% shooting with seven assists on twelve made field goals. The Maroon and Grey led by double-digits for the majority of the final three minutes. Roque had nine points, two rebounds, and two assists during that span. Pagkalinawan, Alyssa Downs (South San Francisco, CA), and Jerrier chipped in with eight, four, and six points respectively.

In the 2nd Quarter there was a lapse for the U of R defensively giving up 26 points to the Tigers, which erased that double-digit lead. Redlands maintained their advantage until the 5:52 mark when the Tigers drew within eight, 31-23 after a 7-2 run.  Then with 3:03 left Oxy strung together seven in a row that tied the game up at 40-40.  But that's as close as they would get as Downs and Roque would add a jumper and layup in the final minute giving UR a 44-40 lead at the break.

Oxy received a quick response from Alyanna McGrath to start the 3rd Quarter to get within two, but was immediately followed by Downs who knocked down a three-pointer and Roque who converted inside off a Jerrier feed that gave them some breathing room. Much like the second quarter, the Tigers were not going away without a fight, as they got within two on another two occasions, 51-49 and 53-51, in the final four minutes of the frame. But Roque continued to be aggressive adding eight of the final nine points for UR in the quarter as they stretched the lead to 60-52.

It was a low scoring 4th Quarter but Redlands held the advantage 19-12.  They capitalized on Oxy's tired legs, as Jordan Smith (Tustin, CA) made a three-pointer :44 seconds into the quarter, giving Redlands a double-digit lead they never surrendered. Leah Tan (Alhambra, CA) gave the Bulldogs their largest lead of the frame at fourteen after she made a jump shot off a Downs assists with 7:47 remaining. That lead then grew to its largest margin of 18 at the 2:42 mark after Downs again set up a basket, this time for Jerrier.

For the game the Bulldogs shot 52.5% from the field, 44.4% from three-point territory, and 84.6% from the free-throw line.  They totaled 38 rebounds, 46 points in the paint, and turned the ball over just nine times.

Redlands will now travel for two games beginning with the University of La Verne this Wednesday, February 9 beginning at 7:00pm.
