Bulldog Women's Basketball Tops Pomona-Pitzer 78-56

With double-doubles from junior forward Kellis Dack (Vancouver, WA) and sophomore forward Hannah Jerrier (Canton, MA), the University of Redlands women's basketball team remained flawless in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) with a 78-56 road win over Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs came out the gates hot with a 12-4 lead after sophomore guard Alyssa Downs (South San Francisco, CA) knocked down a triple nearly midway through the first quarter. Three minutes later, Downs connected on another trey to give the Maroon and Gray their first double-digit lead at 17-6 with 2:31 left in the quarter. Dack drove to the hoop for a layup to help Redlands end a high-scoring first period with a 19-10 lead.

In the second quarter, first-year guard Angelina Roque (San Diego, CA) checked into the game and made an immediate impact with the first two buckets and a rebound for a 23-13 lead at the 6:57-mark. As the Bulldogs continued to click on both ends of the court, senior guard Cassandra Lacey (Victorville, CA) got hot with eight consecutive points in a two and a half minute span, in addition to a steal and a rebound, to help build Redlands' lead to 35-18 with 2:05 left before the break. On the last possession of the half, Dack stepped back for a triple to head into halftime with a 40-23 advantage.

The Bulldogs came out the half with a solid first possession, as Dack corralled an offensive rebound and dished it to Jerrier for her 10th point of the game. After the midway point of the quarter, Jerrier grabbed an offensive board of her own and put it back up to help the Bulldogs to a 52-33 lead. Jerrier also provided a defensive boost with two blocks in less than a minute span. She then dropped in a layup as time expired for a 61-41 lead heading into the fourth.

Less than three minutes into the final period, first-year guard Alexis Machain (San Diego, CA) chased down and offensive rebound and connected from downtown to help boost the lead to 68-46 with 7:02 remaining. The Bulldogs clamped down on the defensive end and only allowed eight more points for the remainder of the game to seal a 78-56 victory.

Four players scored in double-figures, led by Dack, who scored 17 points and 10 rebounds.  Jerrier also dominated with an all-around performance of 16 points, 15 rebounds, and four blocks. Eight of her rebounds came on the offensive end, which helped the Bulldogs to 15 second-chance points. Downs scored 10 points, including two three-pointers, while Lacey dropped in 13 points, three assists, and three steals.

As a team, the Maroon and Gray dominated the rebound battle, 42-20 and the bench outscored the Sagehens, 20-12.
