Tucker Cargile recognized as CoSIDA Academic All-American

CoSIDA Academic All-Americans (Men's Track & Field/Cross-Country)

REDLANDS, Calif. – University of Redlands graduate student Tucker Cargile (Denver, CO) was one of two representatives from the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) to be recognized as a 2022 CoSIDA Track & Field/Cross Country Academic All-American officially announced this week by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Cargile, who was selected as a 1st Team All-American for the first time in his career after becoming a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District recipient is coming off one of the most impressive single seasons in program history, both in Cross Country and Track & Field.  He ended the 2022 Outdoor Track & Field season at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships earning himself his second career All-American nod coming in the 800m.  This year he was named an All-American three times.  In the fall at the Cross-Country Division III National Championships where he finished 36th overall, while breaking his University of Redlands school record in the 8K (24.20.02). 

He then followed that up being named an All-American in the Mile during the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships where he was Runner-Up after posting a 4:07.02, which broke the NCAA Division III record.  Then to finish his career he came away with a 3rd place finish in the 800m at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, coming in with a time of 1:50.80, completing the trifecta in All-American accolades.

This year he collected the awards being the recipient of the Frank Serrao Award, given to a University of Redlands Outstanding Senior Scholar-Athlete, was named 1st Team All-SCIAC in Cross-Country, 1st Team All-SCIAC in Track and Field (1500m), the USTFCCCA Division III West Region Athlete of the Year for Indoor Track & Field, was named to the USTFCCCA All-West Region team in the Mile (Indoor), 800m (Indoor/Outdoor) and 1500m (Outdoor), and was also rewarded the Dixon Farmer Character Award. 

Academically Cargile carries a 3.91 GPA as he pursues a Master's Degree in Organizational Leadership.  Before entering graduate school he posted a 3.67 GPA as an undergraduate earning a degree in Psychology.  He has been named to the SCIAC All-Academic Team four times, was a Redlands Scholar Athlete four times and was a member of the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team. 

Outside of competition, Cargile represented the University of Redlands in various service-oriented and leadership capacities, including as a Maroon and Grey Student Ambassador. He also contributed to the Alpha Phi Omega Community Service Fraternity and worked with the University of Redlands Development Team.

The Division III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2021-22 Division III Academic All-America® program.

Ten of the 45 members of the Academic All-America® Division III men's track and field/cross country teams boast a perfect 4.0 GPA in their undergraduate work or graduate school. The 16 honorees on the first team have an average GPA of 3.94, with the entire men's team combining for a collective 3.87 GPA.
