Bulldog Track & Field prepares for 2022 SCIAC Championships

 

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Track and Field teams will travel to Whittier College for the 2022 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships this weekend, Saturday-Sunday, April 30-May 1.

Men

The Bulldogs are the reigning SCIAC Champions after topping the four-team event in 2021 following the cancellation of the 2020 SCIAC Championships due to COVID-19. The last time the Bulldogs came away with the title when all nine SCIAC teams were present was in 2012 when they won their second title in a row. 

During the SCIAC Multi-Dual season the Maroon and Grey went 7-1.  They went 2-1 at SCIAC No. 1 beating the University of La Verne and Chapman University.  After that they were perfect going 2-0 at SCIAC No. 2 with wins over Caltech and Occidental College.  Then to end the dual-season they posted a 3-0 mark at SCIAC No. 3 with victories over Pomona-Pitzer, Cal Lutheran, and Whittier College.  They currently sit second in the conference standings heading into the Championships trailing only to Claremont-M-S.  They also sit ahead of Pomona-Pitzer and Chapman University.      

Redlands has athletes/relay teams in thirteen different events ranked inside the Top-10 within the conference, which includes the top time/mark in three events.  A pair of athletes were also been selected for SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors throughout the season including Owen Schmitz (Triple Jump), and Tucker Cargile (2x) (800m) (1500m).  Cargile was also named the USTFCCCA Division III National Athlete of the Week.

Women

The Bulldogs won the SCIAC team title in 2021 in a four-team field. The 2020 edition was cancelled due to COVID-19. Redlands will be seeking their first women's title since 2010, which includes a full field of teams. 

Redlands had a fantastic conference multi-dual season securing all eight possible points thanks to a perfect 8-0 record across the three SCIAC Multi-Duals. The Bulldogs went 3-0 at SCIAC No. 1 beating Chapman University, Claremont-M-S, and the University of La Verne.  They then posted a 2-0 mark at SCIAC No. 2 taking out Caltech and Occidental.  Then to finish their head-to-head duals they would go on to dominate SCIAC No. 3 sweeping Whittier College, Pomona-Pitzer, and Cal Lutheran University. 

The Bulldogs have athletes/relay teams that rank inside the Top-10 of the conference this year in all 20 events with the top time/mark in five of them.

This season three bulldogs have been selected as the SCIAC Athlete of the Week including Andrea Lyon (200m) (400m), Maigan Adams (Triple Jump), and Ciara Aw (Long Jump).
