Redlands Track & Field Produces Strong Results on First Day of NCAA Championships

Multiple members of the University of Redlands men's and women's track & field teams took their talents to the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio, for the first day of the 2019 NCAA Division III NCAA Outdoor Championships on Thursday.  

On the women's side, senior Kara Romani (Sacramento, CA) kicked off the day for the Bulldogs with four of her seven events in the Heptathlon and currently sits in 10th place with a tally of 2,748 points. Her top finish of the day came in career-record fashion, as she finished seventh in the High Jump with a height of 5' 1 ¾".  She looks forward to competing in the Long Jump, Javelin, and 800 Meters on Friday.

The Maroon and Gray's 4x100 Relay of first-year Courtney O'Neal (Atlanta, GA), sophomore Hanna Albrecht (Cottage Grove, OR), first-year Annick Bangou (Redlands, CA) and junior Chyenne Kimble (Big Bear Lake, CA) qualified for Saturday's final with a solid time of 47.31 in the prelims.

In her second event of the day, Kimble finished 15th in the 200 Meters with a time of 25.35.

Junior Jessica Fields (Las Vegas, NV) unleashed a time of 1:02.23 for seventh place in the 400 Hurdles to also qualify for Saturday's final.

On the men's side, the 4x100 Relay of sophomores Domanick Murray (Palm Springs, CA) and Cooper Malerstein (Huntington Beach, CA), junior Maliq Champion (Beaumont, CA), and senior Luke Bohlinger (Mercer Island, WA) uncorked its fastest time of the year in 40.97 to qualify for the final on Saturday.

Bohlinger went on to finish 11th in the 200 Meters by completing the race in 21.76, while Champion crossed the line in 22.08.

Redlands returns to action on Friday, May 23, beginning with Romani in the Long Jump at 11:30 a.m. EST.
