Redlands Garners 29 All-Region Awards for Outdoor Track & Field

It was announced earlier this week by the U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) that the University of Redlands earned 29 total All-Region awards for outdoor track & field.  The All-Region awards go to the top-five individuals and top-three relays in each region.

The Bulldog men hauled in 15 awards, while the Maroon and Gray women snagged 14.

Senior Luke Bohlinger (Mercer Island, WA), junior Maliq Champion (Beaumont, CA), and sophomores Cooper Malerstein (Huntington Beach, CA) and Domanick Murray (Palm Springs, CA) secured the honor for the 4x100 Relay with their region-leading time of 41.00.

In addition, Bohlinger, Champion, and sophomore MJ Wheeler (St. Louis, MO) each received two individual awards to headline the Bulldogs.  Bohlinger leads the West Region in the 100 Meters with a time of 10.50 and sits second in the 200 at 21.38.  He now owns eight All-Region awards for outdoor track & field.  Champion becomes a five-time outdoor recipient with the fastest time in the west for the 200 Meters at 21.10 and the fourth-best mark in the High Jump with a height of 6' 6 ¾".  Wheeler adds a pair of accolades to his resume for a total of three in just two seasons.  This year, he lands second in the region in the Long Jump (23' 1 ¾") and fifth in the Triple Jump (44' 2").

Senior Joseph Esparza (Arcata, CA) repeats as an All-Region selection by ranking fifth in the 3000 Steeplechase with a time of 9:16.00.  Senior Nick Burchett (Gold River, CA) caps off his four-year career with his sixth outdoor award.  His time of 55.12 in the 400 Hurdles places him fifth in the region.

Senior John Pease (Fallbrook, CA) gains his first All-Region nod with the fourth-fastest mark in the west for the 400 Hurdles with a time of 54.01.  Senior Matthew Hayashi (Hacienda Heights, CA) also reels in his first-ever All-Region award, with this year's honor coming off the fourth-best mark in the Shot Put at 48' 6 ¾".

Sophomore Tucker Cargile (Denver, CO) rounds out the individual recipients with the No. 1 time in the West Region for the 800 Meters at 1:50.27.

For the women, the 4x100 Relay of junior Chyenne Kimble (Big Bear Lake, CA), sophomore Hannah Albrecht (Cottage Grove, OR), and first-years Courtney O'Neal (Atlanta, GA) and Annick Bangou (Redlands, CA) receives the honor with the second-fastest time in the West at 46.74.

Kimble also paces the Bulldog women with four individual awards for outdoor track & field to become an 11-time All-Region selection.  She ranks second in the 100 Hurdles (14.19) and 200 Meters (24.57) and sits third in the region in the Heptathlon (4,608 points) and 100 Meters (12.21).  Senior Kara Romani (Sacramento, CA) joins her among the Heptathlon honorees with 4,595 points for fourth in the west and her fourth such award in outdoor track & field.
