Bulldog Track & Field Achieves Memorable Marks at Redlands Invitational

The University of Redlands track & field teams hosted the annual Redlands Invitational on Ashel Cunningham Track inside of Ted Runner Stadium on Friday, as the Bulldogs unleashed impressive marks throughout the day. 

For the women, one of the top highlights came early on the track, with the 4x100 Relay of sophomore Hannah Albrecht (Cottage Grove, OR), junior Chyenne Kimble (Big Bear Lake, CA), first-year Annick Bangou (Redlands, CA), and first-year Courtney O'Neal (Atlanta, GA) firing off a school-record time of 46.74 to surpass the previous standard by 0.64.  In addition, the talented quartet now ranks first in NCAA Division III this season by 2.3 seconds.

In addition, graduate student Reyna Ta'amu (Lakewood, CA) won the Shot Put with a heave of 48' ¾" which places her atop the Division III leaderboard for 2019 by more than five feet.

The Bulldogs also saw junior Jessica Fields (Las Vegas, NV) finish second in the 100 Hurdles with the fastest Division III time of the season at 14.92.  She also came in third in the 400 Hurdles by completing the race in 1:04.93.

First-year Ani Nitta (Wailuku, HI) flew to a third-place time of 1:02.22 in the 400 Meters, while sophomore Desiree Cadena (San Jose, CA) ran a career-best time of 2:21.88 in the 800 for fourth place. 

Furthermore, Bangou finished sixth in the 100 Meters with a time of 12.50 and Albrecht uncorked a fifth-place time of 26.14 in the 200 Meters.

For the men, senior Luke Bohlinger (Mercer Island, WA) leads Division III in the 100 Meters with his winning time of 10.80, as junior Maliq Champion (Beaumont, CA) closely followed in 10.87 for third place.  Bohlinger also impressed in the 200 with his second-place time of 21.62, which lands him first in the nation.

First-year Dylan Fernholz-Hartman crossed the finish line in the 110 Hurdles in 15.91 for the fastest of his young career, while sophomore Jason Waters (Troutdale, OR) took second in 16.14.  In addition, first-year Jamir Jones (Fairfield, CA) ran a career-best time of 1:56.05 for sixth place in the 800.

Senior Matthew Hayashi (Hacienda Heights, CA) produced a solid day by landing among the top four at the meet in three throwing events.  He earned a second-place distance of 130' 2" in the Discus, registered a career-best heave of 148' 1" for third place in the Hammer Throw, and reached a fourth-place mark of 46' 3 ¼" in the Shot Put for another career-best. 

Champion also excelled in the High Jump by taking second with a height of 6' 6 ¾", which places him atop the Division III leaderboard so far this season and ties his career-best mark.

Redlands heads to the UCR Invitational Multi-Events meet on Thursday, March 21, and Friday, March 22.
