Redlands Track & Field Shines in Season Debut at Mountain T's Invite

The University of Redlands men's and women's track & field teams kicked off the indoor season with their annual trip to the Mountain T's Invitational at Northern Arizona University on Friday and Saturday.  While competing in the open division, the Bulldogs came home with a solid start to the campaign.

Among the highlights, senior Luke Bohlinger (Mercer Island, WA) registered quality times in the sprints by earning second place in the 200 Meters with a time of 22.08 and taking third in the 60 Meters in 7.03.  Sophomore Domanick Murray (Palm Springs, CA) closely followed in the 60-meter race with a time of 7.07.

Senior Matthew Hayashi (Hacienda Heights, CA) unleashed a fifth-place mark of 43' 7 ¼" in the Shot Put, while senior Nick Burchett (Gold River, CA) ran a 51.01 in the 400 Meters for fifth place as well.

In the Heptathlon, junior Tyler Lufkin (Yucaipa, CA) put together a solid outing for 4,193 points to finish second.  His best result came in the 1000 Meters with a winning time of 2:52.25.  Sophomore Jason Waters (Troutdale, OR) also impressed in the Heptathlon with a third-place score of 4,052 points.  He won the 60 Hurdles in 9.11 while earning second-place results in the High Jump (5' 7") and Pole Vault (12' 3 ½").

For the women, graduate student Reyna Ta'amu (Lakewood, CA) picked up right where she left off during the 2018 outdoor season.  She won this weekend's Shot Put competition with a mark of 50' 11".  In addition, sophomore Brenna Dolen (Redlands, CA) reached a distance of 33' 11 ¼" in the Triple Jump for third place.

First-years Annick Bangou (Redlands, CA) and Courtney O'Neal (Atlanta, GA) impressed in their collegiate debuts by combining for a one-two finish in the 60 Meters.  Bangou fired off a time of 7.89 to win the race, as O'Neal completed the sprint in 7.94.

The Bulldogs gained quality results in the Pentathlon, with senior Kara Romani (Sacramento, CA) leading the charge with her second-place score of 3,105 points.  She provided consistency with second-place efforts in the 60 Hurdles (9.41), Shot Put (33' 2"), and Long Jump (16' 7 ¾").  Sophomore Hannah Albrecht (Cottage Grove, OR) amassed 2,955 points for third place, as highlighted by her winning time of 2:33.91 in the 800 Meters. 

Junior Chyenne Kimble (Big Bear Lake, CA), Romani, and Albrecht competed in the 60 Hurdles outside of the Pentathlon and tallied third, fourth, and fifth place, respectively.  Kimble's time of 9.07 topped the trio.

Redlands returns to Flagstaff on Friday, February 15, for the NAU Tune-Up Meet at 9 a.m.
