The University of Redlands track & field teams traveled to the University of La Verne to compete in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Multi-Dual No. 2 meet against the host school, Occidental College, and Chapman University. With impressive results all around, the Bulldogs captured six total wins, with the men and women each going 3-0 on the day.
Among the numerous highlights, the Maroon and Gray saw senior Wyatt Pannabecker (Choteau, MT) uncork a career-best leap of 47' 7 ¾" in the Triple Jump to rank first at the meet and among NCAA Division III this season.
In addition, first-year Cal Martin (Dayton, WA) fired off a distance of 158' 2" to take first in the Javelin Throw.
The Bulldogs' relays impressed with a pair of winning times. The 4x100 of junior Luke Bohlinger (Mercer Island, WA), junior Nick Burchett (Gold River, CA), sophomore Maliq Champion (Beaumont, CA), and first-year MJ Wheeler (St. Louis, MO) joined forces for a time of 42.09, which lands the speedy quartet at eighth in the nation. The 4x400 of Burchett, first-year Tucker Cargile (Denver, CO), first-year Domanick Murray (Palm Springs, CA), and sophomore Jordan Washecheck (Tulsa, OK) completed the race in 3:19.34 for first place at the meet and seventh in Division III.
Bohlinger and Wheeler teamed up for a sweet 1-2 punch in the 100 and 200 meters. Bohlinger won both events with respective times of 10.82 and 21.89, as Wheeler closely followed with times of 10.97 and 22.15.
Cargile added a first-place time of 1:55.94 in the 800, while Burchett won the 400 Hurdles in 54.61 to now rank 16th in the nation.
Finally, junior Joseph Esparza (Arcata, CA) continued to shine in the 3000 Steeplechase, as he crossed the finish line with a winning time of 9:51.23.
Furthermore, Washecheck's second-place time of 48.54 in the 400 meters places him seventh in NCAA Division III for the current season.
For the women, the 4x100 Relay of first-year Hannah Albrecht (Cottage Grove, OR), sophomore Jessica Fields (Las Vegas, NV), sophomore Chyenne Kimble (Big Bear Lake, CA), and junior Kara Romani (Sacrament, CA) teamed up for the sixth-fastest time of the season in Division III by winning the race in 48.49. The 4x400 of Albrecht, senior Justine Keller (Portland, OR), Kimble, and senior Kaylee Jorgensen (Claremont, CA) also impressed with a winning time of 4:01.71 to land 13th in the nation.
In addition, Kimble's career-best time of 25.53 in the 200 not only put her atop the podium but 15th in Division III. Albrecht also took first place in the 400 meters with a time of 59.47, while Keller closely followed in second with a time of 59.62.
In the distance events, sophomore Maria Ramirez (Orange, CA) crossed the finish line first in the 5000 meters with a time of 18:39.72, while junior Ellie Ramsey (Waterbury, VT) sped to a winning effort in the 3000 Steeplechase in 12:19.95.
Highlighting the field events, Kimble reached a first-place distance of 36' 10 ¼" in the Triple Jump for the best of her career, while senior Reyna Ta'amu unleashed a winning heave of 41' 11 ½" in the Shot put.
Redlands looks forward to competing in the Jim Click Multis Shootout on Thursday, April 5, and Friday, April 6, in Tucson, AZ, and at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday, April 7.
