Sophomore Vanessa Blanchard Earns All-America Status with Tied-for-Eighth-Place Showing at NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

Five members of the University of Redlands track & field teams competed at the 2016 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday and Friday in Waverly, Iowa, with sophomore Vanessa Blanchard (Palmdale, CA) highlighting the Bulldogs' efforts with her All-America showing in the High Jump. 

She made her way onto the podium in a tie-for-eighth place by clearing a height of 5' 5 ¼" as one of six women to reach this mark.  Following the appropriate tiebreaking procedures, Blanchard collected her first-ever All-America award with a top-eight finish.

Earlier today, junior Alison Smith (McKinleyville, CA) completed her second national meet with a time of 15.66 in the preliminary of the 100 Hurdles for 17th place.

In addition, senior Joey Colucci (San Jose, CA) capped off his Bulldog career by competing in the 100 and 200 Meters during his fourth NCAA appearance.  He took 14th in the 100 preliminary with a time of 10.82 amidst a fast race that included a pair of stadium record times. During the 200, Colucci ran a time of 22.31 to finish 19th.  Junior Myles Speegle (Castro Valley, CA) joined him in that event, earning a 17th-place time of 22.19.

Finally, freshman Nick Burchett (Gold River, CA) made his national debut with a spot in the 400 Hurdles. He completed the full-lap in 55.22 to take 19th in the preliminary race.
