Following the completion of the championship meet, the 2016 All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Track & Field Teams were formally announced on Friday. The top-three finishers in each event receive this honor.
Overall, the Bulldog women gained five individuals and one relay among the All-SCIAC honorees.
Junior Alison Smith (McKinleyville, CA), sophomore Vanessa Blanchard (Palmdale, CA), and sophomore Mandy Widen (Vail, AZ) took home championships in their respective events while also earning All-Conference recognition. After uncorking a time of 14.54, Smith won the 100 Hurdles for the third year in a row. Earlier this season, she posted the fourth-fastest time in the country of 14.29. Blanchard cleared a height of 5'3" to capture the title. She currently ranks eighth in the NCAA Division III with a mark of 5'6 ½". In addition, Widen impressed with a first-place height of 11' 10 ½" in the Pole Vault, which places her 31st in the nation.
Sophomore Kaylee Jorgensen (Claremont, CA) made her way onto the podium with a third-place time of 2:17.23 in the 800 Meter Run for another All-SCIAC nod. Senior Lauren Roberts (Portland, OR) also earned third place in the 10,000 Meter Run with a time of 37:57.69. She currently ranks 37th in the country with an earlier-season time.
Finally, the 4x100 Relay of sophomore Courtney Crain (Happy Valley, OR), junior Jasmine Ramos (Santa Fe Springs, CA), freshman Kara Romani (Sacramento, CA), and Smith garnered an All-SCIAC time of 48.95 to take third at the championships.
For the men, senior Joey Colucci (San Jose, CA) added another All-SCIAC accolade to his repertoire by taking second in the 100 with a time of 10.91. He is currently ranked 10th in the country for this event with a time of 10.69.
Freshman Nick Burchett (Gold River, CA) impressed in his inaugural conference championships by firing off an All-SCIAC time of 53.59 in the 400 Hurdles that landed him second on the podium. This also places him 11th in the nation.
Finally, the 4x100 Relay of freshman Luke Bohlinger (Mercer Island, WA), Colucci, junior Myles Speegle (Castro Valley, CA), and freshman Nathan Munoz (Rio Rancho, NM) put together a third-place time of 41.71 for All-Conference recognition. The quartet currently sits seventh among NCAA Division III with a previous time of 41.53.
