Maddie Smith Collects All-American Nod with Eighth-Place Finish in High Jump at NCAA Division III Indoor Nationals

Senior Maddie Smith (Hoquiam, WA) of the University of Redlands track & field program represented the Bulldogs well at the 2015 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field National Championships by earning eighth place in the High Jump for NCAA All-American honors.

While making her first-ever appearance at the indoor championships, Smith cleared a height of 5' 5", which landed her fifth among a group of eight competitors with the same mark.  In order to break the tie where possible, the number of missed attempts is evaluated, allowing Smith to make her way onto the podium in eighth place.

Smith has advanced to three national championship meets in her career thus far, but garners her first All-American accolade in her inaugural indoor performance.  She is also the first student-athlete from Redlands to compete at the indoor nationals.

Gladys Njoku of Stevens Institute took home the High Jump title with a height of 5' 7 ¾".

Smith returns home to join her teammates at the Redlands Invitational on Friday, March 20, at Ashel Cunningham Track in Ted Runner Stadium.
