U of R Swim and Dive Impresses with Three SCIAC Athletes of the Week

The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) offices recently announced its weekly awards and senior diver Sami Scarano (Boulder, CO), sophomore swimmer Makenna Parenti (Rocklin, CA), and first-year swimmer Blake Eddow (Corona, CA) of the University of Redlands women's and men's swimming & diving teams secured Athlete of the Week honors for their performances last weekend.

Both the women's and men's teams took second at the Caltech Invite amongst other SCIAC schools, including Occidental College, Cal Lutheran University, and Caltech.  The women scored 907 points while the men racked up 780.50.

Scarano secured a 204.65 score and the top spot on the 1-meter board, providing 20 points for the Maroon and Gray to start the day.

Parenti blew the competition out of the water in the 200 Fly with a first-place time of 2:10.64, five seconds ahead of the next finisher. She also performed extremely well in her only other individual event, the 100 Fly by taking second place with a time 59.12. Parenti combined efforts with teammates, out-touching the competition in the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 3:59.65, two seconds before the next quartet. She also contributed her talents to the 200 Free Relay, 200 Medley Relay, and 400 Free Relay, adding crucial points for the Bulldogs. Parenti also showed off her range of skills, taking second off the 1-meter dive, scoring 140.90 and adding 17 points to Redlands' total.

On the men's side, Eddow won the 200 Free with a time of 1:43.46 and placed second in the 200 and 400 IM touching the wall in 1:58.08 and 4:14.78 respectively. He also contributed his efforts to the first-place 400 Free Relay quartet with a time of 3:08.0 and second-place 400 Medley Relay team, stopping the clock in 3:33.05.
