Sydney Nakagawa and Samuel Ayers Sweep SCIAC Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week Awards

The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) recently announced its weekly awards and sophomores Sydney Nakagawa (Vancouver, WA) and Samuel Ayers (Orinda, CA) of the University of Redlands women's and men's swimming & diving teams secured Athlete of the Week honors for their performances last Saturday. 

Nakagawa, along with senior Julia Hagenbaumer (Naperville, IL), and sophomores Makenna Parenti (Rocklin, CA), and Jacqueline Setlich (Laguna Niguel, CA) took the top spot in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:51.98. She also contributed a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.58 and a second place mark in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.28 for key points that helped the Bulldogs defeat Concordia University-Irvine, 122-101 on Saturday.

On the men's side, Ayers won two individual events - the 200-yard and 100-yard freestyle events - with respective times of 1:48.09 and 47.36. He ended his day by joining forces with senior Michael Talag (Lakewood, CA), junior Jack McCormick (Santa Rosa, CA), and first-year Blake Eddow (Corona, CA) with a winning time of 1:27.61 in the 200 Free Relay. Ayers provided big points for the Bulldogs to clinch a thrilling 103-102 win over Concordia University-Irvine.
