Redlands Swimming Competes on Day One of SCIAC Championships

The University of Redlands swimming teams took to the pool on the first of the four-day Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Swimming Championships on Thursday night at the Brenda Villa Aquatic Center in Commerce. Upon conclusion of session-one action, the Bulldog men sit in third with an overall score of 92, while the Maroon and Gray women earned 75 points for seventh.

The men's 200 Medley Relay of first-year Anders Stenfjord (Shoreline, WA), sophomores Eric Forbes (Ladera Ranch, CA) and Jordan Convery (Fairview, OR), and senior Aaron Bauer (Garden Grove, CA) stopped the clock in a quality time of 1:33.27 for a fourth-place finish. Bauer turned in the fastest split of 19.76 seconds as the anchor. In the consolation final, sophomore John Nelson (Parker, CO), first-years Lucas Walker (Mountain View, CA) and Derrick Garcia (Orinda, CA), and junior Carson Brett (Exeter, CA) edged Chapman University by .20 seconds to earn a third-place time of 1:35.67.

In the consolation final of the 800 Free Relay, junior Michael Talag (Lakewood, CA) and senior Jack Ivey (Albuquerque, NM) joined Garcia and Walker to battle for a third-place finish with a mark of 7:01.34 for key points.

The women's best finish came in the consolation final of the 200 Medley Relay, as junior Julia Hagenbaumer (Naperville, IL), and first-years Courtney Prefontaine (Laguna Niguel, CA), Makenna Parenti (Rocklin, CA), and Mary Tanouye (Kiel, WI) teamed up to place fourth with a time of 1:49.95.

In the 800 Free Relay, first-years Emily Heaston (Corona, CA) and Jacqueline Setlich (Laguna Niguel, CA), sophomore Olivia Cano (Dublin, CA), and senior IvyLee Senn (Novato, CA) stopped the clock in 8:01.48 for a sixth-place showing in the final.

The Bulldogs return to the pool tomorrow for day two of the SCIAC Championships, which begins with the prelims at 9 a.m. and continues with the finals at 5 p.m. Redlands competes in the 500 Free, 200 Individual Medley, 50 Free, and 200 Free Relay on Friday.
