U of R Swim & Dive Falls to CMS on Senior Day

The University of Redlands swimming & diving teams battled it out on Senior Day against the nationally-ranked Stags and Athenas of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Saturday.  The Bulldogs celebrated their nine seniors in a short ceremony at the Thompson Aquatic Center but came up short of the win in both match-ups.  The Redlands men fell short by a score of 52-191, while the Bulldog women stumbled in a 39-194 decision.

The Maroon and Gray divers secured key points for each team.  First-year Erica Schickerling (Arlington Heights, CA) recorded a pair of third-place finishes for the women, as she earned 159.45 points on the one-meter board and 169.20 points in the three-meter competition.  Junior Jacob Miner (Antioch, CA) and sophomore Max Spiegel (Englewood, CO) teamed up for a lucrative tandem that took second and third place on each board.  Miner earned 252.55 points on the three-meter board as Spiegel closely followed with 251.00 points.  The duo repeated the results on the one-meter with respective scores of 271.35 and 206.30.

For the men's swimmers, senior Aaron Bauer (Garden Grove, CA) and junior Carson Brett (Exeter, CA) provided a quality combination in the 100 Free, as Bauer swam a 48.09 for second place and Brett touched the wall third in 48.35.  Brett also made his way onto the podium in the 50 Free by uncorking a third-place time of 22.17, while Bauer came in fourth in the 200 Free with a time of 1:47.10.

In addition, sophomore Jordan Convery (Fairview, OR) provided a fourth-place finish in the 200 Fly by clocking a 2:00.24.

Finally, the 400 Medley Relay of first-year Lucas Walker (Mountain View, CA), sophomore Eric Forbes (Ladera Ranch, CA), first-year Anders Stenfjord (Shoreline, WA), and first-year Samuel Ayers (Orinda, CA) combined forces for a time of 3:37.31 to take fourth.  The 400 Free Relay of Ayers, junior Brett Hurick (Exeter, CA), Brett, and Bauer finished the day on a high note by taking second in 3:12.73. 

For the women, sophomore Olivia Cano (Dublin, CA) supplied a pair of third-place showings in the 400 Individual Medley (4:53.81) and 200 Breast (2:29.54).  Senior Wendy McAleer (Simi Valley, CA) finished fourth in the 50 Free with a time of 25.88, while first-year Sydney Nakagawa (Vancouver, WA) touched the wall in 55.67 for fourth during the 100 Free. 

In addition, the 400 Free Relay of senior IvyLee Senn (Novato, CA), Nakagawa, first-year Mary Tanouye (Kiel, WI), and first-year Emily Heaston (Corona, CA) joined together for a third-place effort with a time of 3:48.72.

Redlands heads to Occidental College on Saturday, February 2, for a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) meet against the Tigers at 10:30 a.m.
