U of R Men and Women Finish Fourth at SCIAC Swim & Dive Championships

The University of Redlands men's and women's teams finished up the 2018 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships at Brenda Villa Aquatic Center in Commerce on Saturday.  With plenty of times that reshuffle the Bulldogs' all-time, top-10 lists, the women solidified their fourth-place finish with 491 points, while the Maroon and Gray men secured fourth place as well with 502 points over the four-day event.

Among the highlights, junior Wendy McAleer (Simi Valley, CA) unleashed an All-SCIAC time of 2:07.74 in the 200 Fly for a spot on the podium in third place.  She headlined an impressive Bulldog performance that included first-year August Key (Albuquerque, NM) in fourth (2:08.97) and first-year Karina Lanning (Cupertino, CA) in sixth (2:10.69).  In addition, McAleer and Key now sit fourth and fifth, respectively, in the Bulldogs' all-time, top-10 records.

In addition, sophomore Julia Hagenbaumer (Naperville, IL) won the "B" final of the 200 Breast with the fourth-fastest time in Redlands history at 2:25.84, which was three seconds ahead of second place at the meet.  First-year Olivia Cano (Dublin, CA) represented Redlands in the final of this event with her sixth-place time of 2:26.75 to rank fifth among the Redlands top-10 list.

Sophomore Taylor Cadile (San Jose, CA) and senior Emily Waddell (Bellevue, WA) provided solid results in the 100 Free "B" final with their third- and fourth-place finishes, respectively.  Cadile clocked a time of 54.01, while Waddell swam a 54.07.

The 400 Free Relay of Cadile, McAleer, Key, and Waddell uncorked the sixth-fastest time in school history to finish fourth at the meet.  The quartet completed the blistering race in 3:33.65.

Sophomore diver Sami Scarano (Boulder, CO) hauled in critical points for the Bulldogs, as she took fifth on the three-meter board with a tally of 391.25.

For the men, Redlands won three of the "B" finals with quality marks.  Sophomore Carson Brett (Exeter, CA) began the night with a time of 46.51 in the 100 Free, while senior Brian Wright (Kent, WA) won the 200 Breast consolation in 2:08.04, which moves him up from eighth to fourth on the Bulldog all-time list.  First-year Eric Forbes (Ladera Ranch, CA) added a second-place effort in the 200 Breast "B" final by touching the wall in 2:09.75. Finally, senior Corey Winter (Ripon, CA) out-touched the competition in the 200 Fly "B" final with a time of 1:54.34.

The men's 400 Free added a fifth-place time for the Bulldogs, as Brett, Wright, sophomore Michael Talag (Lakewood, CA), and junior Aaron Bauer (Garden Grove, CA) put together a time of 3:04.89 in the final race of the season.

The Bulldogs look forward to cheering on Scarano, sophomore Jacob Miner, and first-year Max Spiegel (Englewood, CO) at next week's NCAA Diving Regionals in San Antonio, TX.
