The University of Redlands swimming & diving teams hosted Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in Saturday's Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) meet at the Thompson Aquatic Center. The Bulldogs fell short against the Sagehens, as the women suffered a 67-166 loss and the men faltered by a score of 92-146.
Among the highlights, sophomore Jacob Miner (Antioch, CA) won the three-meter diving competition with a total score of 314.95 and took second in the one-meter by earning 274.50 points. First-year Max Spiegel (Englewood, CO) closely followed in both results with a second-place effort (289.95) and a third-place finish (246.30). For the women, sophomore Sami Scarano (Boulder, CO) produced similar results as Miner by winning the one-meter with a score of 249.90 and taking second on the three-meter board with a tally of 252.60.
In the swimming events, junior Sean Todd (Highland, CA), junior Mitchell Walker (Kearns, UT), and sophomore Reece Koe (Camarillo, CA) supplied sweeping results in the 1000 Free, with Todd posting the winning time of 10:44.24. Walker followed in second at 10:45.15, while Koe completed the race in 10:57.85 for third.
Senior Brian Wright (Kent, WA) out-touched all competition in the 100 Free to lead off another 1-2-3 finish for the Bulldogs. He won the event in 48.04, with junior Aaron Bauer (Garden Grove, CA) and first-year Eric Forbes (Ladera Ranch, CA) closely following at 48.72 and 49.21, respectively.
Bauer also registered a second-place showing in the 50 Free with a time 22.02, as Wright took third in 22.03.
First-year Jordan Convery (Fairview, OR) made his way onto the podium for the 400 Individual Medley by finishing second with a time of 4:26.00.
Finally, the men's 400 Free Relay of sophomore Michael Talag (Lakewood, CA), sophomore Carson Brett (Exeter, CA), Forbes, and Bauer touched the wall in 3:15.45 to finish second.
On the women's side, seniors Emily Waddell (Bellevue, WA) and Alex Amaro (Sugar Land, TX) registered the only other events wins of the day. Waddell out-swam the competition in the 50 Free with a blistering time of 25.44, as Amaro came in first in the 1000 Free by touching the wall in 12:31.26. Senior Kellen Levi (Centennial, CO) provided a second-place time of 12:59.58 in the distance race for the Bulldogs.
First-year Olivia Cano (Dublin, CA) represented the Bulldogs well in the 400 IM and 100 Free with a pair of second-place times. She put together a showing of 4:52.53 in the IM race before completing the 100 in 55.97.
Finally, the Redlands women earned a pair of third-place results in the relays, beginning with the 400 Medley Relay of junior IvyLee Senn (Novato, CA), Cano, Waddell, and senior Olivia Rock (Boulder, CO) that completed the race in 4:13.93. Junior Wendy McAleer (Simi Valley, CA), Waddell, first-year August Key (Albuquerque, NM), and Senn fired off a time of 3:48.19 in the 400 Free Relay to finish the meet on the podium.
Redlands hosts Whittier College for Senior Day on Saturday, February 3, at the Thompson Aquatic Center. Diving is slated for 10 a.m., with swimming to follow at 11 a.m.
