Junior Ellie Jaques (Covina, CA) of the University of Redlands represented the Bulldogs at the 2016 NCAA Division III Swimming Championships on Wednesday in Greensboro, North Carolina, with a school-record showing on her first day of competition.
During the morning preliminaries, she broke the Redlands record in the 200 Individual Medley with a career-best time of 2:04.93, which bettered the Bulldog standard by 1.66 seconds. The previous record was established by Cathleen Penney in 2006.
Despite having the 36th-fastest qualifying time at the national meet, Jaques swam the 13th-fastest time in the preliminaries to move on to the consolation final this evening, during which she swam a time of 2:06.61 to finish 16th overall.
Jaques' inaugural experience at the national meet continues tomorrow when she competes in the 400 IM and 100 Fly. Thursday's preliminaries begin at the Greensboro Aquatic Center at 10 a.m. EST. Fans may follow along on live streaming and real-time results.
