Redlands Swimming & Diving Garners Record-Setting Times and All-SCIAC Honors at Day Three of SCIAC Championships

The University of Redlands swimming & diving teams completed day three of the 2016 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships on Saturday at the SPLASH! La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center with solid results that included school records and All-Conference honors.  Both teams remain in third place with the men earning 425 points and the women collecting 452 points.

The meet started off on a fast note with the top-five finishers of the men's 400 Individual Medley all achieving NCAA provisional qualifying times.  Redlands' freshman Zack Amendola (Palos Heights, IL) uncorked a second-place time of 4:01.36 to add another All-SCIAC honor to his name. 

For the women, junior Ellie Jaques (Covina, CA) set a new SCIAC meet record in the morning preliminaries and reset it in the final to take home the 400 IM title with a time of 4:30.11.  This also broke the Bulldogs' school record. 

Junior Will Tyrrell (Portland, OR) uncorked a third-place time of 51.55 in the 100 Back to collect All-SCIAC honors, while freshman Joe Widuch (Naperville, IL) just missed the podium when he touched the wall in 51.77 for fourth place. 

Freshman Kate Canfield (Naperville, IL) added to the Bulldogs' All-Conference hardware by taking third in the 100 Back with a time of 58.07.  Sophomore Rachel Haney (Redmond, OR) closely followed in fourth by completing the race in 58.38.  Furthermore, sophomore Danielle Miller (Hood River, OR) won the "B" final in the same event with the only sub-minute time of 59.70, as senior Bailey Clem (Napa, CA) finished second with her time of 1:00.46.

The men's 400 Medley Relay of Tyrrell, Amendola, junior Eric Bugna (Vancouver, WA), and sophomore Brian Wright (Kent, WA) joined forces for an All-SCIAC showing with a third-place time of 3:27.12.  In the "B" final, Widuch, sophomore Harlan Long (Orland Park, IL), freshman Lucas Ulmer (Camas, WA), and freshman Aaron Bauer (Garden Grove, CA) put together a time of 3:29.99 for second place.

On the women's side, Canfield, Jaques, freshman Courtney Schmidt (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA), and senior Lauren Robeznieks (Tigard, OR) broke the school record in the 400 Medley Relay while earning All-Conference honors with their third-place time of 3:54.67.

Junior Miko Mallari (Palo Alto, CA) highlighted the men's one-meter diving performances with his fourth-place effort that resulted in 379.30 points. 

Redlands looks forward to the final day of the SCIAC Championships on Sunday, February 21, which includes the 200 Back, 100 Free, 200 Breast, 200 Fly, 1650 Free, 400 Free Relay and the finals of the women's three-meter diving.
