Bulldog Swimming & Diving Slips to CMS in SCIAC Meet

The University of Redlands swimming & diving traveled to nearby Claremont to square off against the Stags and Athenas of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in Saturday's Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) meet.  Overall, the Bulldogs collected 24 top-three finishes, but the women lost by a score of 75-165, while the men came up short in a 53-187 decision.

Highlighting the meet for the Maroon and Gray, freshman Kate Canfield (Naperville, CA) registered the only event-win with a first-place time of 2:11.15 in the 200 Back.  Sophomore Rachel Haney (Redmond, OR) joined her on the podium in that event by clocking a third-place effort of 2:17.60.

In addition, senior Lauren Robeznieks (Tigard, OR) and junior Ellie Jaques (Covina, CA) posted second-place showings during the high-caliber meet.  Robeznieks fired off a time of 2:01.28 in the 200 Free, while Jaques came in second in the 200 Breast (2:30.66) and 200 Fly (2:13.23).  Jaques' strong finish in the 200 Fly headed up a quintet of Bulldogs that followed, as sophomore Claire Stuhr (Portland, OR), freshman Courtney Schmidt (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA), senior Maurisa Major (Sacramento, CA), and junior Leah Bolin (Oshkosh, WI) all followed in respective order over the next 10 seconds.

Finally, the 400 Medley Relay of Canfield, Stuhr, Jaques, and Robeznieks combined forces to touch the wall in second place with a time of 4:08.16.

For the Bulldog men, freshman Zack Amendola (Palos Heights, IL) cranked out a time of 4:18.84 in the 400 Individual Medley to take the silver medal, before posting a third-place time of 2:14.60 in the 200 Breast. 

Furthermore, sophomore Nick Gambatese (Corvallis, OR) led off a 3-7 showing in the 1650 Free with his third-place time of 18:08.63.  Sophomores Sam Meyer (Seattle, WA), Henry Stuckenschmidt (Fresno, CA), Harrison Cannon (Boston, MA), and Ryan Shuman (Boulder, CO) joined him at the finish line in respective order.

In addition, sophomore Harlan Long (Orland Park, IL) produced a sub-five-minute mark in the 500 Free, touching the wall third with a time of 4:58.37.

On the diving boards, Redlands gained a second-place performance from senior Akari Matsumoto (Redmond, WA) with her score of 216.60 in the three-meter event.  She also took third in the one-meter competition with a mark of 213.85. 

For the men, junior Miko Mallari (Palo Alto, CA) led the Bulldogs with his pair of third-place results.  He scored 221.10 on the one-meter board and 199.85 on the three-meter board for a solid day of competition.

Redlands swimming looks forward to competing in the 2015 Collegiate Winter Invite in Southgate on Friday, December 11, through Sunday, December 13.
