The University of Redlands swim team hosted the annual Bulldog Pentathlon at the Thompson Aquatic Center on Saturday with senior Jeff Depew (Naperville, IL) winning the men's competition and sophomore Ellie Jaques (Covina, CA) earning second in the women's events.

While taking on various Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) schools as well as the University of San Diego, Concordia University-Irvine, and Azusa Pacific University, all Bulldog swimmers competed in 100 yards of each stroke before swimming one last time in the individual medley.  The final results are based on an aggregate time for each swimmer, with the overall fastest mark taking the top prize for men and women.

Depew uncorked a total time of 4:29.04 to win the Bulldog Pentathlon for the second year in a row.    He placed first in the 100 Fly (51.20) and the 100 IM (53.16) while taking second in the 100 Back (53.15).

Sophomore Eric Bugna (Vancouver, WA) was the only other Bulldog to finish among the top 10 in the final men's standings, earning ninth with a combined time of 4:43.95.  He uncorked a ninth-place time of 53.85 in the 100 Fly before completing the 100 Back in 56.71, also for ninth place.

Sophomore Will Tyrrell (Portland, OR) finished fifth in the 100 Back by touching the wall in 55.73 and senior Eric LoPrete (Beaverton, OR) swam the 100 Free in 48.65 for seventh place.

Jaques took the runner-up spot in the women's competition with a five-race total of 5:09.76.  Highlighting her solid showing, she posted top-three performances in the 100 Fly (third - 59.63) and 100 IM (second - 1:01.91).

In addition, freshman Rachel Haney (Redmond, OR) completed the 100 Back in a time of 1:00.88 for fifth in that race.

Redlands looks forward to hosting the Bulldog Diving Invite on Friday, November 14, at 9 a.m. in the Thompson Aquatic Center.
