University of Redlands junior Jeff Depew (Naperville, IL) closed out his memorable third trip to the NCAA Division III Championships for the Bulldog men's swim team, taking second place in Friday's 200 Fly with a new school and Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) record.

After finishing the 200 Fly prelims during the morning session in first place with a time of 1:46.60, Depew uncorked his new career-best and school-record time during the finals, touching the wall in 1:45.38, just 0.02 seconds behind the national champion in the event.  Depew originally qualified for nationals in the 200 Fly as the 19th and final competitor with a seed time of 1:50.38.

In addition to Depew, senior David Ortyn (Bainbridge Island, CA) finished his heralded career with the Maroon and Gray by collecting Honorable-Mention All-America laurels and taking 15th in the 200 Fly with a time of 1:50.40.

For the Bulldog women, junior Chandra Lukes (Escondido, CA) clocked in her best time of the season in the 100 Back (57.69), placing 25th overall amongst the talented field.  For Lukes, it was an improvement on her seed time of 57.77 coming into the event.

After three days of competition, the Bulldog men sit in 17th place overall, while with just Lukes competing for the women, the U of R women are in 34th.

Lukes looks to defend her national title in the 100 Free tomorrow as she is the lone Bulldog competitor on the final day of the NCAA Championships.
