The University of Redlands swimming & diving program took on formidable opponents in Cal Baptist University and Cal State East Bay on Saturday.  Although the Bulldogs registered three losses between the men and women, they gained valuable experience against quality opponents in an early-season test of competition.

The Bulldog men scored against Cal Baptist only, as CSUEB does not have a team, and lost by a score of 91-202.

Highlighting the men, junior Jeff Depew (Naperville, IL) and senior Brent Reed (Dublin, CA) captured the only event victories for the Bulldogs.  Depew fired off a time of 2:00.75 in the 200 Back, while Reed came in first with a time of 53.78 in the 100 Fly.  The duo also supplied second-place efforts, with Depew going 1:55.05 in the 200 Fly and 159.09 in the 200 Individual Medley, while Reed earned a mark of 22.34 in the 50 Free.

Redlands gained a few more second-place performances, with sophomore Kyle Blandin (Beaverton, OR) shining in the 100 Fly with a time of 54.42.  Freshman Trevor Togashi (Redlands, CA) impressed in his second meet as a Bulldog, taking second in the 200 Free with his time of 1:50.23.  Senior Andrew Bone (Claremont, CA) uncorked one of two sub-50-second times in the 100 Free to touch the wall in second place at 49.40.

In diving, freshman Miko Mallari (Palo Alto, CA) scored 126.84 points in the one-meter event as the top Bulldog and overall second-place finisher.  On the three-meter board, freshman Fernando Hudson (Indian Wells, CA) tallied 132.60 points for second place overall.

The Redlands women recorded defeats against both opponents, falling to Cal Baptist, 64-230, and coming up short against East Bay by a score of 86-201.

The top Bulldog finish came in the 200 Free Relay, during which the quartet of junior Summer Harp (San Bernardino, CA), freshman Savannah Long (Kennesaw, GA), freshman Ellie Jaques (Covina, CA), and sophomore Lauren Robeznieks (Tigard, OR) finished third with a time of 1:44.63.  In addition, Redlands' 400 Medley Relay of freshman Cassidy Cramton (Rancho Cucamonga, CA), freshman Jessica Rivers (Renton, WA), freshman Leah Bolin (Oshkosh, WI), and Harp recorded a fourth-place effort with a time of 4:34.19.

Individually, Robeznieks also took fourth in the 200 Free by knocking out a time of 1:59.45.  Bolin finished in fourth as the only Maroon and Gray competitor in the 200 Fly at 2:27.56.

Freshman Jessica Kolsky (Red Wing, MN) impressed as the top Bulldog diver, earning a pair of fourth-place performances at the meet.  She registered a score of 174.85 on the one-meter board and a mark of 166.85 on the three-meter dive.

Redlands looks forward to hosting the always-exciting Bulldog Pentathlon on Sat., Nov. 9, at 9 a.m.  This event features swimmers only who all compete in the same five races to determine the overall individual winners for me and women.
