Bulldogs to Host SCIAC Diving Championships

The University of Redlands excitedly looks forward to hosting the 2012 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Diving Championships at the beautiful Thompson Aquatic Center. The preliminary rounds take place on Sat., Feb. 11, and Sun., Feb. 12, followed by the finals on Sat., Feb. 18.

Due to a necessary venue change for the SCIAC Swimming Championships to a facility that does not accommodate diving, Bulldog Athletics agreed to extend its previous responsibility of hosting the prelims to also include the finals.

During the prelims, all diving competitors will participate in the first five rounds for the one-meter and three-meter boards. The top eight divers continue with six additional rounds. On Saturday, the events include the women's three-meter at 11 a.m. and the men's one-meter at approximately 2 p.m. The men's three-meter and the women's one-meter occur on Sunday at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively.

On Feb. 18, only the top eight competitors, regardless of school affiliation, perform 11 dives to determine the final standings on each board for men and women. The order of events mimics that of the prelims, with the morning competition beginning at 11 a.m. and the afternoon portion starting at 3 p.m.

General admission to the SCIAC Diving Championships is $5 per day. All SCIAC personnel, including faculty, staff and students, are admitted free with proper ID. Children under 12 are also free.

Outside food and drink are permitted at the Thompson Aquatic Center. However, spectators are reminded that dogs and other pets are not allowed on the premises.

Results of the SCIAC Diving Championships will be posted at http://www.goredlands.com/sports/swimdive/2011-12/schedule once they become available.
