Redlands Softball Releases 2023 Schedule

2023 University of Redlands Softball Schedule

REDLANDS, Calif. – University of Redlands Head Softball Coach Jose Ortega announced his 2023 Schedule Monday with the Bulldogs playing 39 games, 23 of which will take place at the "Field of Dreams".  The Maroon and Grey will also play ten true road games, another five in neutral settings, four taking place in Tucson, AZ at the Tucson Invitational (March 11-12) along with 21 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) contests and another 18 within non-conference.

Redlands will open their 2023 season against Pacific Lutheran University (PLU) in a single game on Saturday, February 11 at 1:30pm on the campus of the University of La Verne. The Bulldogs are coming off of a 24-14, 15-6 SCIAC season in 2022, where they won the SCIAC Regular Season Championship Title for the second consecutive season, while locking in the top seed in the SCIAC Tournament.

Redlands has 13 newcomers this season and returns four of their five All-SCIAC performers.  They open their home slate with four games against the Northwest Conference beginning on Friday, February 17 when they take on Whitworth University for a doubleheader (12:00pm/2:00pm).  They will then host No. 14 Linfield University on Saturday, February 18 (11:00am/1:00pm).

With the loss of two-time reining SCIAC Player of the Year, Collette Allen (Sierra Madre, CA) and fellow All-SCIAC members Tyesen Gordon and Danielle Stallings, the Bulldogs will lean on Alexis Campos (Lake Forest, CA) offensively. Campos finished third on the team in batting average at .339. She was also third on the team with 19 extra-base hits.

In the circle the Bulldogs have four pitchers on staff, three of which are wearing the Maroon and Grey for the first time.  Kassidy Long (Hemet, CA), who was sidelined last year with an injury will also make her return.  A year ago the Bulldogs leaned on Kalyn Kershner (Ewa Beach, HI) who is returning, but will be back in her primary position of center field.  In 2022 Kershner posted 86 innings thrown with eight wins and 42 strikeouts, all of which ranked second on the team.  Kershner was also named 2nd Team All-SCIAC.
