First-year Madeline Gonzalez and Junior Desiree Moran Sweep SCIAC Softball Athlete of the Week Honors

In a strong week for the University of Redlands softball team, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) honored first-year ace Madeline Gonzalez (Colton, CA) with the conference's Pitcher of the Week award, while junior second baseman Desiree Moran (Bakersfield, CA) claimed the SCIAC Hitter of the Week award.

The Redlands softball team went 3-1 on the week that featured a 6-4 win over George Fox, and a sweep of Brandeis, 8-7, and 6-0.

Gonzalez appeared in all four games last week. She pitched 13.1 innings while recording an impressive 17 strikeouts while only giving up five hits and no runs for a 0.00 ERA. She also registered a complete game in a 6-0 win over Brandeis on Friday. For the season, Gonzalez is tied for first in the conference with 23 strikeouts and owns a SCIAC-high 5.96 strikes per seven innings. She also boasts the third-lowest ERA in the conference at 1.81.

Moran went 5-for-10 over four games for a .500 batting average for the Bulldogs last week. She knocked a home run and a double for three RBI and also scored two runs. She also notched a .545 on-base percentage and a .900 slugging percentage. Her home run came in a close game-one, 8-7 win over Brandeis on Friday. Overall, Moran is tied for first in the SCIAC with two home runs and leads the Maroon and Gray with a .789 slugging percentage.
