SCIAC Men's Water Polo Tournament Quarterfinal Preview: Uni. of Redlands at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Water Polo team qualified for the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament as the fifth seed and will travel to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) who enters the postseason as the fourth seed tomorrow, Wednesday, November 16 beginning at 7:00pm.  

The Bulldogs ended their regular season 13-14, 5-6 SCIAC but with major improvements from their 2021 win total increasing by eight and within conference by three even though they missed out on three SCIAC games due to cancellations.

The winner of tomorrow night's contest will travel to either No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer or No. 2 Occidental College on Friday, November 18 with the lowest remaining seed from this game and the Cal Lutheran vs. Chapman going to Pomona-Pitzer. Start times will be announced following the quarterfinal games on Wednesday.

Previous Meetings

The Bulldogs lost both games with the Stags this season. Their first lost came at the Triton Invitational (11-7) | (Box Score) in San Diego, which was at the beginning of September during a non-conference game. Jake Rose (San Diego, CA) was the only Bulldog to score multiple goals in that contest. In this game the Bulldogs held a 4-0 lead six minutes into the first quarter before conceding 11 of the final 14.

In their second meeting, which took place inside the Thompson Aquatic Center last month, the Bulldogs lost 11-10 (Box Score). They again held a lead in the first half before the Stags scored 11 of the final 20 goals to take the road victory. The Bulldogs received braces from Andrew Higginson (San Diego, CA), Ron Gvishi (Kiryat Tivón, Israel), and Spencer Sellwood (Irvine, CA).

The Bulldogs averaged 10.7 goals per game this season and allowed 10.4. Redlands had a significant advantage in the first and fourth quarters where they outscored their opponents by 32 goals versus the middle two quarters where they were outscored by 33.
